A database is made up of many records. Each record represents a single item, such as an article published in an issue of a periodical, a chapter from a book, a picture, or a particular set of data.
A record is made up of several fields. Each field represents a piece of information that describes the item, such as the subject, author, title, language, or date of creation. By using the information in these fields, you can construct searches that will retrieve citations in the database that match your research topic.
