Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Grant
Integrating Information Literacy into the Liberal Arts Curriculum
Travel Funds for Sharing of Grant Projects at Conferences
The Steering Committee of the Five Colleges of Ohio Mellon Information Literacy Grant Project has
established a small-grant budget line to support conference travel. Faculty and librarians who have
been involved in Mellon information literacy projects and who are making conference presentations
related to their projects may apply.
Grant Guidelines
The proposed professional conference must be one that the applicant does not normally attend.
These grants were established to encourage faculty members to attend library conferences and
librarians to attend disciplinary conferences. Awards will be made only to librarians and faculty
who are making presentations related to their Mellon grant projects.
Each applicant may request up to $750 to cover travel, lodging, and registration expenses.
Successful applicants shall submit a brief report about their conference experiences to their
campus committee chair.
Procedures
- Secure an application form from the Campus Committee Chair (Susan Scott at Denison, Janet
Cottrell at Kenyon, Jessica Grim at Oberlin, Theresa Byrd at Ohio Wesleyan, and Julia Gustafson at
Wooster) or from the grant web site (Conference Travel Application Form).
- Submit completed application to the Campus Committee Chair. Application information will be
shared with the campus committee members who will make the award decisions in consultation with Ray
English, Project Director. (The Campus Chair will send copies of successful applications,
including grant amounts, to the Five Colleges of Ohio office.)
- Options for making grant payments:
- If funds are to be paid to the grantee by the Five Colleges of Ohio office, the grantee will
need to complete a travel form, submit receipts, and be reimbursed after the travel has taken place.
Contact Brenda Howard (howardb@kenyon.edu) for details.
- If a college wishes to pay conference costs on behalf of the grantee, the college may bill the
Five Colleges of Ohio office up to the amount of the award.
- Upon return from the conference, the grantee will submit to the campus committee chair a
one-page summary of the experience.
